Making Waves Film Festival is Portsmouth’s annual film festival and short film competition celebrating innovative and bold filmmaking that inspires audiences. Founded in 2012 we continue to develop local creative talent and promote up and coming filmmakers whilst building national and international links as we work towards establishing the festival as a sustainable enterprise.

As Portsmouth’s annual film festival and short film competition we aim to: 

• Celebrate innovative and bold filmmaking that inspires audiences. 
• Connect with filmmakers across the globe through our borderless short film competition.
• Develop emerging creative talent through our industry-focused events.  
• Extend and redefine the cinema experience beyond the expected. 
• Leave no audience behind by making cinema relevant to diverse and marginalised communities.
• Work in partnership with local and regional stakeholders to realise the festival's ambition to be the south-central region's premier film and cinema event. 

Making Waves works in partnership with BFI NETWORK South West, BFI Film Hub South West, EUROSCRIPT, FILM EXPO SOUTH and No6 CINEMA and is an IMDb qualifying Festival.
